Nathan Bell

I am running for the Moraga-Orinda Fire District Board (MOFD) to bring my 35 years of experience in building and managing small businesses to benefit our community.  As a 30-year resident of Moraga, I know outstanding fire fighting and paramedic services are critical, and have always been valued by our community. I also desire to respect our taxpayers - current and future - by assuring fiscally responsible managment of the MOFD. I am endorsed by both sides of the aisle by Stever Glazer our Democratic State Senator, Catharine Baker our Republican State Assemblywoman and by Candace Anderson our Republican Superviser on the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors.

East Bay Times Editorial:

"Voters shouldn’t let union run Moraga Orinda fire board"

"Voters have a choice between independant advocates for paying down pension debt and union candidates trying to take control of district”

"We urge voters to stay the course, to elect three candidates who understand the need to put the Moraga Orinda Fire District on solid financial footing: Nathan Bell in Division 1, Red Smith in Division 3, and Lucy Talbot in Division 4."

Dan Borenstein, East Bay Times Editorial Board 9/11/18

My priorities for MOFD:

  1. Maintain current Firefighter staffing levels and high quality emergency medical services
  2. Fund FIRE PREVENTION.   Educate the community of Fire Safe Practives and implement new technology for detection.
  3. Reduce $68M unfunded Pension/Medical liabilities ($6,000 per household)
  4. Exploration of new technologies. In this age of drones, home monitoring cameras and a multitude of new technologies in our lives, surely there should be, and will be new technologies in the future to assist in preventing and fighting fires.
  5. Sound financial management to ensure MOFD’s funds are prudently dispensed to      provide efficient and effective fire and emergency services. We owe this to both our current, as well as our future taxpayers.

Nathan Bell Bio:

  1.  Long Term Resident: Lived in Moraga for 30 years with my wife, Melanie, where our   five children have attended and graduated from Camino Pablo Elementary, Joaquin Moraga Middle School and Campolindo High School.
  2. Moraga Community Volunteer: Engaged over the years in many community, scout, youth sports, church and school volunteer services, including coaching dozens of LMYA sports teams and serving for five years as the BSA Aklan District Financial Chair.
  3. Education: Received a B.S. in Business Economics and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
  4. Career: Managed small to medium sized businesses. I am well prepared to assist and provide oversight to the MOFD. I have served as CEO, chair and board member of over 25 companies in my career, many of which have required the development and assessment of new technologies in traditional industries, not unlike fire protection and medical response services.
  5. Strong Endorsements: Steve Glazer, CA Senator; Catharine Baker, CA Assemblywoman; Candace Andersen, CCC Supervisor and three current MOFD board members (John Jex, Brad Barber and Craig Jorgens) and numerous other Moraga residents and leaders.

Our tranquil community deserves the highest quality emergency services. I look forward to listening to our residents' concerns and supporting our new MOFD Fire Chief and its dedicated and trained personnel in assuring Moraga's safety.
